It had some drawbacks; but it was quick and we did not want to waste time or allow enthusiasm to dwindle, especially as the Danckwerts Award was to be distributed on January 1 1953 and we thought that practitioners might then feel more inclined to pay our entrance fee! We would not have to put a public notice in the press; we would not need the blessing of the profession, of the Royal Colleges, the Ministry of Health, nor of other Government Departments, nor even of the Board of Trade, although the last of these would have to agree to the name we chose.
